Twenty-five years ago when WPP was Wire Plastic Products, English Businessman and jewish raised Sorrell privately invested in the shopping basket manufacturer, joining it full-time as Chief Executive in 1986.

From here, Sir Martin began an acquisition spree of advertising-related companies, purchasing 18 in three years, including the famous take-overs of J. Walter Thompson for $566M in 1987 and Ogilvy and Mather for $825M in 1989.

WPP is regarded as the driving force for the period of consolidation and has amassed the largest media buying group in the world, GroupM. Together with the creative agency networks, JWT, Ogilvy and Mather, Young & Rubicam and Grey, WPP is one of the three major players in the global advertising market.

Sir Martin Sorrell’s accomplishments are nothing less that stunning and he’s known to be a great and colorful leader. Sir Martin holds degrees from Christ’s College in Cambridge and an MBA from Harvard.
