Founder Sports Division

Sir Tom Hunter is a seasoned entrepreneur and philanthropist. Tom made his first fortune when he sold the sports retail chain he founded, Sports Division for £ 290m in 1998. He founded private equity vehicle, West Coast Capital (“WCC”) in 2001 and his philanthropy, The Hunter Foundation (“THF”) in 1998. THF has invested in excess of £50 million to date as well as endowing the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship @ Strathclyde.
WCC, which has held assets valued in excess of £ 5 billion, invests in property, retail and ecommerce opportunities predominantly in the UK with minority interests held in India, Asia and the US.
THF focuses on education and poverty alleviation in the UK and an integrated economic and social development strategy at country level in Rwanda in partnership with former US President Clinton.
Tom was Knighted for services to entrepreneurship and philanthropy in 2005. Amongst a number of advisory roles, Tom is a member of President Kagame’s Advisory Committee for Rwanda and an Advisory Board member to the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business and their CEO’s Programme.
